Ian has over 20 years of professional experience in over 30 countries in Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa and Asia. He has been a programme and project director, consultant, researcher, and fundraiser for a variety of activities related to sustainability. He is the former director of the Netherlands government's technical and financial support to developing countries for climate change; and has founded or lead the development of a series of sustainability initiatives, including, for example: a breakthrough approach to monitoring & evaluation of adaptation to climate change (for the UK Department for International Development); the first intergovernmental partnership to increase resilience in major river deltas - the Delta Coalition (for the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs); and AdaptationWatch: an international partnership of universities, think-tanks and NGOs to improve the governance of climate finance. He graduated with First Class Honours in Science, Technology and Society from Middlesex University, UK; has been a course leader for the UK Open University’s International Environmental Policy programme; has taught on the University of Amsterdam’s International Development Studies Programme; and is an Associate with the Stockholm Environment Institute. She is a Sustainability Entrepreneur on key sectors of The Next Economy (Energy Transition, Zero Waste, Future-Proof Cities and Sustainable Lifestyles). She holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering and Management from the Escuela de Organizacion Industrial (EOI) in Madrid, Spain. Her expertise includes: business strategy and transformative models on circular economy; material closed-loops and on-demand services; systemic innovation and net-positive initiatives in corporate and public sector; collaborative advice, advocacy, communication and engagement strategies; diversity and inclusion strategies for corporate and public environments; and Connected and Responsible Leadership in uncharted territory.
Timmons Roberts is Ittleson Professor of Environmental Studies and Sociology at Brown University, USA, where he was Director of the Center for Environmental Studies. He is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. His Ph.D. was from Johns Hopkins University in Sociology's Program in Comparative International Development. His B.A. was in Biology (with research in tropical and temperate ecology) from Kenyon College. Co-author and editor of twelve books and edited volumes, and of over eighty articles and book chapters, Timmons' current research focuses on climate change and economic development.
Gabi has extensive experience with international sustainable development and corporate social responsibility/creating shared value. She has been a senior researcher for the Netherlands Commission for Sustainable Development (NCDO), where she was responsible for multi-disciplinary policy studies on a broad range of international sustainability issues, in particular the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. And where she organised the WorldConnectors: a cross-generational network of opinion leaders from various sectors of society, including government and politics, media, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and the scientific, research and spiritual communities. Gabi researches partnerships between business and civil society, at the Institute for Management Research (Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands).
Wouter Baars is the founder of www.projectmanagement-training.nl and runs professional project management trainings for a wide variety of corporate, public sector and NGO clients. He has been at the forefront of the development of new media and ‘serious games’ for education, and has won First Prize in the Nasa Space Apps Challenge for creating a simulation using Google Maps to locate the most lucrative investments in new and renewable sources of energy. Wouter graduated in Industrial Engineering from the Technical University in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, with a masters degree in Technology for Sustainable Development.
